‘Skater XL’ is the realistic skateboarding game we’ve been waiting for

We're about to see a rebirth of the skater game genre, with a new Skate title from EA, a Tony Hawk Pro Skater remaster, and a host of new indie titles, including the superb Skater XL. This game takes a more realistic approach to skating (you're probably not going to land many 1080 spins), but it's control scheme makes landing even a kickflip feel satisfying. Each control stick maps to one of your feet. You steer with the should buttons, and flick the joysticks to manipulate your board and land tricks. It's challenging, and takes some getting used to, but immensely satisfying once it starts to click.
