Description

This view is rather unique, and shows you what some of the 13 cameras on the Skydio R1 are seeing as they try to avoid obstacles around me while it follows me. Note, all of this is totally autonomous. I simply selected me as the object to track and off it went following me on this entire run.

12 of the cameras are used primarily for obstacle avoidance, while the 13th camera is the main 4K camera used for filming (and tracking an object - me). This view is called Voxel view, and is rendered after the fact by Skydio (it's not yet an option for end users). I sent them not just the video from the flight, but the entire extended logs - an astonishing 17GB of files for this 6 minute flight. But that's logical given it includes the views of 13 cameras (the obstacle avoidance ones are capturing different data than the 4K imagery one).

My hope is that we'll see them add this feature for regular end users, as both a nifty geeky feature, but also a way to better understand what objects it can...and can't see properly.

Finally, note that this video isn't sponsored. I neither kept the drone nor am being paid anything for it. Just a typical media loaner unit.
