Description

With Thunderbolt 3 just starting to get wide adoption on laptops, it's of course time for Thunderbolt 4. This isn't going to be a huge change, peak speeds may improve a bit, but Intel is really focusing on shoring up the minimum spec.

Thunderbolt 4 devices will guarantee the ability to connect to 2 4K monitors, as well as supporting up to 4 thunderbolt ports on docks and accessories, stronger security, and at least one thunderbolt/USB charging port.

The one downside is it doesn't seem like Intel is planning to do anything to distinguish Thunderbolt 4 ports from Thunderbolt 3, so be prepared to dig around in some system settings to try and work out what your machine actually comes with.
