Xperia 1 II review part 1: Sony refines its cinematic phone formula

When we reviewed the Xperia 1 last year, we didn't love it. There was a lot that was unique about the phone, but it felt a little too specific and niche to ever find a wide audience. We were right, but Sony has doubled down on the formula with the Xperia 1 II, and we've got to admit, they know what they're doing.



The Xperia 1 II is even more specialized than its predecessor, but delivers flagship performance with great industrial design and an incredible set of camera features. We're saving the camera for part 2 of the review, but here in part 1 we tackle how the Xperia 1 II works as a phone. Short answer, it's still weird, it's still Sony, but it's great. Now if only it didn't cost $1200.
